double check and google FIRST, before falling for sales pitches in the amazon reviews of this book

The book is OK (especially for the Kindle price of 0.99 - if you don't like it, you've only lost 0.99). BUT - I STRONGLY urge people to check out websites like highya.com (search for Affluence Edu there, or just google Affluence Edu) to read all the very negative reviews out there for the Boots on the Ground camp, and the Buying Summit, for which there are so many glowing (but vague) reviews on this website (makes you wonder ... are these reviews really genuine, or part of a promotion ....?). Apparently, fees charged for such camps and summits are quite exorbitant ($30K or more). If these glowing reviewers really thought these camps were so great and helped them make money from real estate - why weren't they upfront, and disclosed that they "paid $30K (gasp!) for these camps, but STILL thought they were worth it because of so and so reason?" All they say is these camps and summits were "informative" and "well organized" -- well guess what? There are tons of "informative" and "well organized" stuff out there in the Internet and Youtube, for FREE - no need to plunk down $30K for "informative" and "well organized" stuff that "will help you get started tomorrow"

I am familiar with Scott Yancey from his TV show. His book is a clear guide to help those who have a goal to invest in real estate. He writes as if he is talking with you at a coffee shop, just like where he got his tip to invest in the housing market in Las Vegas. With a little background to demonstrate how he got to this point in his career and clear directions on how to turn a profit in the real estate market, this book is very informative. Even though he had found his success in Las Vegas and the locations in the West, his steps and tools are applicable to other markets across the country. I loved that there are directions, templates, and examples to show you how to use them rather than leave you to struggle through it.

I loved this book. It was well written and Scott Yancey made it easy for people who didn't know much about real estate investing simple to learn. I loved how he used some of his stories and experiences in this book. He may have lost some people when he started throwing the numbers in but I felt like it was necessary. I will definitely check out his other book. I hope to learn some more soon. Huge fan of his Tv show Flipping Vegas. Both Scott and Amy have inspired me.

Decent framework if one recognizes/corrects deficiencies

This is a decent text for high school students with low reading levels. However, it must be supplemented. The text makes a good framework as long as one supplements with outside activities, vocabulary, etc.
A major downfall to the text is lack of vocabulary. For example, in cell biology, the text relies on descriptions of the parts of cell instead of standard vocabulary. High school students need to know what the endoplasmic reticulum is, not just that it is a "network of canals".
Another downfall is that the authors have ignored the fact that organisms are divided into 6 kingdoms, not 5. The kingdom Monera was divided into Archebacteria and Eubacteria decades ago and high school students need to know that!

This series of short essays, mostly from female writers, describes, as the title indicates, how they got sober. There are a variety of stories, ranging from tragic to hilarious, and most have a little of both. I enjoyed the variety. The writing is solid, and it's well edited.

The authors aim to provide students and new readers of philosophy with a thorough and comprehensible review of Hume's thought in the context of his time. In seeking clarity, the authors--both philosophy professors--also squeeze confusion and unwarranted ambiguity out of the discourse about Hume, thereby providing more experienced readers of philosophy with an intriguing gloss on Hume. This book is a delight to read. I recommend it highly.

Like the above reviewers, university quashed my taste for philosophy. I wish I had studied under Brown and Morris. Their entertaining and instructive work, stylish and lucid, while scholarly, reveals Hume's importance to modern philosophy without encumbering difficult academic language. This book is accessible. Hume's contributions have been long been casualties of ignorance, as has the Scottish Enlightenment. Regrettably, the author of the above "Book Description" labels Hume as "English;" a poignant example of current ignorance about Hume and his age. This book has reawakened my interest in Scotland's intellectual heritage and the debt that modern European thought owes to Scots. I can think of no better party favour for my Robbie Burns' Day gathering than this cutting edge book. Slante.

Immensely satisfying

Like the above reviewer, Bill, I am late to philosophy, having had only unsatisfying, thin gruel in university. This book satisfied my matured appetite for intellectual engagement. It is a fabulous introduction to Hume, providing both the historical and modern context for understanding his work. While I see its primary virtue as the accessibility of the material, I can see that it would be enjoyable to those who did pay attention in university and are now ready for a beefier read. It would also make a great gift for that troublesome person on your Christmas list who has everything.

About the Author
Yvonne Wakefield is a Fulbright Memorial scholar, an artist and author who holds a doctorate in Human Organizational Systems, which has little to do with log cabin building. Her first book, Suitcase Filled with Nails: Lessons Learned from Teaching Art in Kuwait (Booktrope Editions, April 2013) chronicles the six years she taught fine art to Muslim women. Like building a log cabin she had no experience in the Middle East but wanted to experience teaching there and was determined to do it. Home is where the chainsaw is.

Wakefield is an unfortunate orphan. She recounts her life in the 1970s. Struggling through the chaos of a loss of family, home and direction, she sets out to a hidden wilderness in Oregon, buys land with what's left of her raided inheritance, and begins to build a cabin with nothing more than a few flea-market tools and a questionable how-to guide.

Wakefield faces a tough challenge, but in the process of building a hermitage escape from the perils of society, she pieces together a life that was ripped from her childhood: family, home and direction. This is a memoir of the human spirit emerging from the ashes.

There are two remarkable facets to Wakefield's writing that I found especially captivating. Wakefield is an artist, and sees the world through an artist's eyes. She has an ability to turn her artistic views into words, such that the colors and setting all around her become characters in their own right. Green takes on almost heroic proportions, white becomes a deadly villain.

The other facet I enjoyed is that she has put a fresh, unique angle on the New Adult genre. Elsewhere in the world of literature, New Adult has come to mean "Setting out to find one's career path." Babe in the Woods instead takes is on a path of maturation that few of us will ever have the good luck to experience personally.

Who is this book for? The obvious answer would be preppers, mountain dwellers and do-it-yourselfers, but really, this book is for young woman about to graduate, for anyone who has an artist's heart, and for readers seeking memoirs of self-discovery.

This book makes an excellent graduation gift for female grads, or as a housewarming gift. Goes great with a chainsaw.

Engrossing, adventures and fun.

One sign of a good book is that you think about it when you're not reading it. I was so engrossed in this novel that I both didn't want to put it down and also tried to draw it out because I didn't want it to end. It is fair to compare this novel to Cheryl Strayed's Wild, but I found Yvonne to be a more interesting and likable main character. Her unbelievable naiveté coupled with her stubborn independence and studied persistence was inspiring. How she managed to not kill or maim herself in the Oregon woods, by learning to fell trees by reading a book for example, is amazing. I could relate to her desires to be independent and live in harmony with her surroundings. When I was younger I held similar fantasies, but I didn't manage to realize them as she did. What a strong young woman. Like her previous book, I was sad to see it end. I wanted to know more - more about what happened next, and more about her further adventures. I await her next novel with happy anticipation!

There's a strong Gal in " Babe in the Woods"!

Yvonne's book is a real page turner, as you wonder what will happen next in the rough lifestyle she's living. She's undertaken a huge job in building a log cabin with no prior experience! As a former " back to the lander" I could identify with some of the daily struggles she faced.
The book is written in such a way that the reader is transported in time to be there, through the good and the bad. It's about her life, as well as the creation of a log cabin.
I wanted a sequel, to learn the next chapters in a strong young woman's life.
This is a book I'd highly recommend. One where you can feel like you are there, and one to show what a determined young woman can do.
