A new me!

My doctor introduced me to this way of eating by having me try the two week plan. I had my reservations and all the reasons why I could not follow it. but I said I'd try it for two weeks--but no more. I began eating the Sugar Control Program three months ago and will never go back to my old way of eating. I have so much more energy now and I like the food. I'm never hungry and grocery shopping is so very easy: I shop on the outside paramenters of the grocery store. In otherwords, I eat all fresh food now.
I bought the book to learn more about why this works and found it to be very helpful in learning how the body handles nutrients and what the body needs to function properly. Ms Paltis also gives some background on TBM (Total BOdy modification) and using functional physiology in learning how the body works. This book is a great guide and reference if you want to learn improved ways of functioning.

A True Wake-up Call

I decided to buy this book after my chiropractor put me on this diet to help with the chronic lower back pain I've been dealing with for about 6 months now. So I bought the book to learn more about this crazy diet I was supposed to follow. I read the book cover to cover in about 2 days. Not only are all of the nutritional facts fascinating, it was also wonderful to read about how she came to this diet herself and the success her patients have had with it.

I can proudly say that by following this diet, under the supervision of my chiropractor, I feel better than I have in months. The pain isn't completely gone yet, but I've made significant improvements in a short month's time, compared to the endless months I spent in physical therapy and seeing countless other doctors who were simply trying to treat my symptoms.

This diet is actually quite easy to follow, and Paltis does a great job answering the most common questions that naturally arise when one considers cutting sugar out of their diet. I lost 10 pounds in a month, have much more energy, and for the first time in quite a while, I feel like I am truly taking good care of my body.

If you want to get off the sugar see-saw, this book will help you do it!!!!

Saved my life

This book saved both mine and my husbands life. We each lost 40lbs (no exercise!) - and for the first time in my 33 years of life my body responded to it by giving me a regular menstrual cycle - since i was a teen I would only get my period every once every couple of years. It had been 6 years since my last cycle when i started this diet within 7 days I got my period and have had a 28 day regular cycle ever since. It blew my doctors away.

My husband who comes from a long line of sleep apnea sufferers, within 5 days on this 'diet' stopped snoring completely. He went from only sleeping 2 hours a night to 8 straight hours. His depression (from us losing everything in hurricane Katrina) went away and I can even tell when he does accidentally get some sugar in his diet becuase he snores a little. But when he is strict on the program - no snoring - no leg kicking - no sleep apnea. AMAZING!

I feel like the love child of Tom Arnold and Robin Williams this way of life gives my body so much energy and my mind so much focus. Awesome Awesom Awesome!

Lawrence H. Cohn, MD, is Virginia and James Hubbard Professor of Cardiac Surgery at Harvard Medical School's Division of Cardiac Surgery and Professor of Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He is the Former President, American Association of Thoracic Surgeons; Former President, American College of Chest Physicians; and Former President, National Library of Medicine Board of Regents. One of the most famous cardiac surgeons in the world---recent notable highlights include a published interview in NEJM and inclusion in a documentary on the heart, which aired on PBS.

About the Author
Yvonne Hackenbroch (1912-2012) was born in Frankfurt, Germany; she studied art history at the University of Munich, earning a doctorate in 1936. During and after the war she worked partly at the British Museum, and was part of the team that catalogued the Sutton Hoo treasure. In 1949 the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York invited her to become a curator specializing in Renaissance art. Her book Renaissance Jewellery, published in 1979, is considered the seminal work on the subject, extending her worldwide reputation as the leading expert in this field. Gonzague Saint Bris is a French writer, historian, journalist, and radio and television broadcaster who resides in his family chateau, Clos Luce at Amboise, where Leonardo da Vinci lived and died. Creator of events such as the Cabourg Romantic Film Festival in Normandy and the Forest of Books, a literature festival in the Loire Valley, Saint Bris has been awarded Chevalier of the Legion of Honor and Commander of Arts and Letters. His recent books include Louis XIV et le grand siecle (2012), Francois Ier et la Renaissance (2008), and Sur les pas de Leonard de Vinci (2006).

Jewelry is great, but book is not

I received this as a gift and I was really looking forward to getting it. I figured; Assouline quality and gorgeous jewelry and history, what can go wrong? Well, a lot. First the book is fattened up with filler. Lots of blow-ups not really relevant to renaissance jewelry and reproductions of paintings/portraits that are so dark and granular like they were blown up from a reproduction.
Overall, the quality is not up to Assouline's normal standards for deluxe art books. And their full retail is ridiculous for something this sub-par.

I am very disappointed in this book.A high price means nothing.
REALLY heavy.could break your coffee table !
The pictures,oh the pictures...........TERRIBLE.I was hoping for the quality print job like "Tachen" books,but the colors are flat,and some look almost re-touched in PhotoShop.I have several quality art books,and was hoping to add this one but it's going back,and I have never returned a book in my life
I really didn't get into the text at all.I would hope that would be better,But for $100.00,and some serous frustration,I'm not going to get into it

SUCH A FIASCO!

As an antique jewelry lover, I feel that the authors' photographs of jewelry pieces by themselves are outstanding. However, what the authors have done to the figures and clothing that they are wearing in paintings from the time period is, in my opinion, appalling. They have distorted the artwork to such an extent that the faces look as if they are cartoons and the clothing bears no resemblance to the splendor or design of the original materials. Making these figures caricatures of what is in the originals is a DISTRACTION from the jewelry they are wearing, NOT a necessary enhancement of said jewelry.
I would have been extremely thrilled with the knowledge and beauty displayed in this volume IF the authors had only let the paintings speak for themselves.
