About the Author

Costas I. Karageorghis, PhD, CPsychol, CSci, FBASES, AFBPsS, is a reader in sport psychology in the department of life sciences at Brunel University London, UK. He is internationally renowned for his research on the effects of music in the realm of exercise and sport. Karageorghis is a chartered member of the British Psychological Society, a chartered member of the Science Council, and a double-accredited member of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences, which elected him a fellow in 2010.

Karageorghis is coauthor of the popular text Inside Sport Psychology (2011), which has been translated into three languages. He has also published 10 book chapters, 75 peer-reviewed journal articles, and 100 professional papers in sport and exercise psychology. His music-related research has been featured in media outlets such as the Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Sydney Morning Herald, ESPN The Magazine, and National Geographic. He has presented his research at conferences throughout the world, serving eight times as a keynote speaker. Karageorghis has worked with numerous international athletes and sport organizations as well as international corporations such as Nike, Spotify, International Management Group, Red Bull, Speedo, and Sony.

From 2007 to 2011, Karageorghis served as head coach of the Great Britain Students track and field team. He has also managed and coached the Brunel University London track and field team since the early 1990s, leading it to seven British Universities championships.

Grade 7-10-This concluding volume of the trilogy features fast-paced action, poetic language, and carefully constructed characters. The first half of the book describes the journey of twins Bowman and Kestrel, their family, and the remnants of the Manth people to their ancestral homeland. They face an attack by bandits, who take Kestrel and other young women captive; a "passion fly" that brings out the hidden sides of people's natures; and a valley in which happiness is the greatest danger of all. As the time of "the wind on fire" begins, the focus shifts to Bowman's preparation for what he thinks will be his role in moving the world from cruelty and danger to the time of kindness. The twins' relationships with one another and with other characters give emotional depth to the action and Nicholson's sure use of detail gives even minor characters clear personalities and a role in exploring the book's themes. While Firesong will have an especially strong appeal to fans of The Wind Singer (2000) and Slaves of the Mastery (2001, both Hyperion), enough background is provided to make this an independently powerful fantasy that will appeal to fans of Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy (Knopf).

My ten year old had just started to read book one, and he is already half way through. He said it is really interesting. We got him book two and three also. So he can't wait to read all of them. He also said that it is weired so far, but nice and keeps him want to know more.

Fascinating Read!

I was only 10 year old when this accident occured and for most of my life I had no idea what had happened. In the late 90s I watched a documentary created by National Geographic. I was amazed by the story! When I went searching for a book on the subject I gravitated towards Mike Gray's. He was the screenwriter for "The China Syndrome", he's an engineer, and was on the ground at TMI when the story was unfolding, just weeks after the release of the movie!

The narative is wonderful, and sharp, and keeps the reader in the mind-set of those in the thick of it. It moves like a fast paced novel and you can feel yourself cringe when the engineers and managers miss a vital clue and are pushed deeper into trouble. I enjoyed that fact that they gave a little background on the main problems in the industry, that led to the problems at TMI. Gray doesn't place too much blame on any one person, instead he blames the system and the design, and the arrogance of those that think nothing bad can happen. Good, very smart men, made some really bad decisions, not because they weren't clever enough, but because the environment itself doesn't lend itself to making good decisions.

A great book! I have read it twice and still get goosebumps.....

Harrowing true story of the Three Mile Island nuclear accident

a harrowing blow-by-blow description of exactly what happened at Three Mile Island, every step of the way. Gripping, terrifying, compelling - and every word of it true. I received the book from Amazon at about 6:30 p.m. and read until my eyes couldn't focus; by 10:30 this morning, I'd finished.

If you haven't read this book, you must. "Human error" and "engineering oversight" don't begin to cover it. This is what catastrophe looks like. This is all the places a nuclear reactor and those who run it can go off the rails.

This March 28, TMI marks its 35th anniversary. I am hopeful that just because it comes only 17 days after the third anniversary of Fukushima that we do not ignore its significance. I will be posting a special Nuclear Hotseat on Three Mile Island on Tuesday, March 25 (NuclearHotseat.com/blog). Until then, I urge you: Read THE WARNING and realize that's exactly what it is.

A book that should have been much better

Storaro always got the finest looking prints and lab work,
and his films are stunning ,But the reproductions in this book
look like as bad as the video for "1900",They are printed on
nice paper in a nice hardcover,but the source for these images
is pretty poor,
I would love to see what a 4000 line scanned capture from
the original source would look like printed the same way.
But that would mean getting Studios like Paramount involved,
Which might mean that the book never came out.Since they
can't even be trusted to release his best work on dvd.
It seems odd that Storaro who seems to demand such high Quality
from his labs,would Ok such poor reprints of his films.
Still with so many of his films unavailable on dvd,This Book
is still worth getting.

A beautiful book and a must have!

for any aspiring cameramen, this is a must have book, Storaro's work is both visually stunning and inspiring, and it is about time that a book celebrating the works of this great master of cinematography is made available.
