A staple of any VFP developer's bookcase

This is simply the most complete collection of VFP Report Writer info between two covers. If you've learned Report Writer via trial and error, there WILL still be gaps in your knowledge. There certainly were in mine, and this book has closed many of them. Then again, you may have some tricks that you won't find in its pages -- so you get to feel like a winner at the same time you're learning new goodies.

In addition, if you end up with a used early edition, Hentzenwerke has downloadable supplemental chapters and source code for all the chapters available currently through their website (have the book open in front of you to pass their download test).

I bought this in a hurry because I was writing a report on deadline and needed some backup. Fortunately I resolved the problem the day before the book arrived, so I was able to read it at more leisure and play with each piece of Report Writer as guided by the author. However, you'd be more prudent to get your copy before you need it.

The book is not straight forward. Instead of teaching the basic concepts and then moving on to a more detailed analysis, the author first complains about all of the problems about this or that license. Then, in the process, you get only bits of basic information. It's a jumbled mess.

The editor really let the author down. It's the editor's job to make sure the information is edited to be clear and logical.

If you need to learn about open source licensing, watch the FREE training videos from Black Duck Software. Just Google "black duck webinars". I believe the author of this book is involved in those as well.

I've found other open source licensing books that get high ratings on Amazon, but none of those are very good either. Well written books on open source licensing seem to be hard to find.

This is the "go-to" reference for OpenSource licensing

I purchased this book 18 months ago, along with two other references. Since that time, I have learned that when I have a question, this is the book to turn to first. In fact, I haven't read the others since first buying them.

This week we had a request to license some code under the CPL. Not only does this book cover that license, but it has a chapter interpreting each of the clever sections, and its repercussions.

As both a licensee and licensor, I have yet to come across an issue which this book did not address. It is the single volume you need.

Hi. I'm Eric, and I'm a working screenwriter, which is a dressed-up way of saying it's how I pay the rent. I started writing for the chance at paying the rent with it about fifteen years ago (oh god, that's a long time, I was such a derp), and during that long, slow crawl uphill to professional status I learned a ton of tricks and tests to help me improve my craft, including ways to find my own unique voice, and methods to break through writer's block.

A few years ago I began sharing these writing challenges on Twitter (@HIGHzurrer) and gained a healthy number of followers who were just here for the "writing insight porn" if you know what I mean. This book contains my favorite challenges from that collection, plus a few dozen new ones I've learned since then.

To be honest, the book is going to be as much a reference document for myself as I hope it will be for you, so here it is. We're in this together.

Forget the formulas; improve your writing.

Unlike the many "secret formula" screenwriting manuals for sale, Eric presents writing exercises to improve your writing and fire your imagination. There are no charts here, no after-the-fact film analyses, but rather simple, fun exercises that can help you become a better writer and an implicit understanding that becoming a better writer is the only thing that matters. Heisserer should know, he's lived the career of a screenwriter (unlike most).

Inspiring and enlightening. Makes hard work fun! This guy really knows how to get your creative juices flowing. The best of this type of book I've read by a long shot/. Excellent!

Solid sensible approach to real screenwriting craft.

The "secret" to being a better screenwriter is to become a better writer. But it's tricky to spin that into a bestselling book. So we have shelves and shelves of books postulating various theories about screenplays and films and writing and the creative process and personal anecdotes. The condensation is generally a very basic foundation. Valuable but not terribly practical.

Eric presents a practical set of exercises that can help improve one's craft and work one's creative muscles. The stuff of becoming a better writer.

Nothing actually worth paying for in this book

This is a quickly written very short book that is more like a blog post than a book. It speakes to IoT at a VERY high level and does not go into much depth (35 pages worth, about 20 of which have any actual content). The author has 47 other titles to her name (according to a page in the book) and clearly seems to write very short pieces on hot topics to make a quick buck. In context of having paid for and read the book, the reviews seem clearly fake.
