Essential to the story, and never changed, is the fate that shadowed the love of Beren and Luthien: for Beren was a mortal man, but Luthien was an immortal Elf. Her father, a great Elvish lord, in deep opposition to Beren, imposed on him an impossible task that he must perform before he might wed Luthien. This is the kernel of the legend; and it leads to the supremely heroic attempt of Beren and Luthien together to rob the greatest of all evil beings, Melkor, called Morgoth, the Black Enemy, of a Silmaril. In this book Christopher Tolkien has attempted to extract the story of Beren and Luthien from the comprehensive work in which it was embedded; but that story was itself changing as it developed new associations within the larger history. To show something of the process whereby this legend of Middle-earth evolved over the years, he has told the story in his father's own words by giving, first, its original form, and then passages in prose and verse from later texts that illustrate the narrative as it changed. Presented together for the first time, they reveal aspects of the story, both in event and in narrative immediacy, that were afterwards lost.

About the Author

Jeffrey Chin is a Professor of Sociology at Le Moyne College and a Carnegie National Scholar.� He served as Editor of Teaching Sociology, and edited the ASA’s Teaching Resources Center publication Teaching Undergraduate Social Psychology (1990) and Included in Sociology: Learning Climates that Cultivate Racial and Ethnic Diversity (2002).� He has also facilitated the ASA Teaching Workshop “Teaching Social Psychology Courses”.

Cardell K. Jacobson is Professor of Sociology at Brigham Young University where he teaches and does research on social psychology, race and ethnic relations, and the sociology of religion. His recent publications have focused on factors associated with inter-group marriage.� �

Great Variety of Unique Projects

The book cover and write up on-line do not do this book justice. I ordered the book because my husband has done some wonderful carvings from Lora Irish's designs. They have incredible detail and depth. The designs in this book are varied and illustrated in amazing colors. The projects span all levels of expertise. My husband has carved for many years, and we are always on the look-out for new material. This book totally fits the bill. He has already selected four "must-do" projects.

Excellent book.

Excellent and detailed book. I bought this for my husband who was a beginner. This has several projects in it and they are all very nice. The instructions are clearly written and illustrated. He was able to finish his first project fairly quickly and it turned out pretty nice, it was the betta fish project which he had me paint to look like our daughters fish. I'd recommend this book to anyone starting out or looking for a good understanding of relief carving/

great book!!! If you want to learn this is the book..... It leads you through all the steps from carving a beginners board to carving a project. Lorna Irish is a good woodworker and has the talent of teaching others. Buy this book if you want to learn.

Excellent Source for leaning how to configure Project System

I have read this book cover-to-cover. I recommend it to anyone who is seriously interested in learning how to configure and use the Project System (PS) component of SAP R/3. It is a concise, easy-to-read, and extremely instructive guide to using PS and I believe it should be a MUST-HAVE for anyone who works with the Project System. It employs an approach that I wish were modeled in other books about R/3 configuration.

While reading this book and with a smll bit of prior knowledge about PS, I was able to configure a project from scratch, including related configuration work in the IMG. It is the best source for an R/3 product that I have encountered and having taught SAP R/3 Configuration for 8 years and taken over 63 days of SAP Americas' R/3 training, I think this says a lot.

I wish there were books like this about such topics as variant configuration, SCM, SNC, and APO: it would have made it a lot easier for me to have learned about configuring these products.

Caveat: I do not know how this book would be for someone who has never worked with R/3 but I also do not think anyone interested in the Project System would be in that situation.

Very Dissapointed from a user perspective

As a user of PS i was very dissapointed in this book and I would not recommend it to anyone with limited knowledge or wanting to learn how to use PS from a user perspective.

The project builder which I believe is one of the main components of PS only receives a cursory look in the book.The building of a WBS structure showing hierarchies etc had no suitable examples and was only briefly touched on.

This is a nice handbook for somebody who wants fast answers to common questions. The best part is how the scenarios are covered, that let you understand more about PS. Also the configuration part is very interesting. This is not a handbook of how to use the basic of PS, this is about how to do advance configurations and how PS relate whit the other modules.

Nice cover, good layout.

This password book measures 4 and a quarter inches by 6 inches so it would fit in a pocket or purse easily. Also, I like the leather-effect cover design, it looks really cool! The pages inside are laid out well. There is one page for each website, and each page has a large 'other' box which I will will use to write new passwords when I change my old ones (which I try to do quite often).

It doesn't have alphabet tabs, but personally I think this is a good thing; with other journals Ive used, I had loads more 'A's than 'X's for example and I would run out of space for some letters. Instead, this book makes you write the website name sideways in the top corner, so you can find your login details for a particular site quickly just by flicking through the pages.

It's OK. Looks nicer in the photos than it is.

For what it is, this seems a little overpriced. I think $4.99 would have been fair. The cover looks nice, but the paper is about that you would find on a mass market paperback, maybe thinner. Since it doesn't lay flat, you almost have to crack the spine to write in it. On the other hand, the page layout is logical and there is lots of room for longer passwords and site addresses. If you change passwords every few months, you'll need to buy a new one relatively soon.

It's not going to hold up under a lot of handling. It definitely wouldn't hold up long in a handbag, backpack or briefcase (although stashing a book of passwords in a handbag or briefcase is a bad idea anyway.

I've have been willing to pay a lot more for a hard cover and the ability to move/rearrange pages (and purchase refills).

Fabulous But Doesnt Have A Hardy Cover

I was surprised that it didn't have a more solid cover. It's thinner than the cover on a mass market paperback. I suspect it won't hold up beyond a few months of regular use. If your goal is to fill it out and lock it in a safe deposit box for reference I highly recommend it. The format is the best out there.

Holy Four Alarm Fire Batman!
I think I just read the hottest thing to creep onto my eReader in a good while. And believe me, I've read some yummy little tales lately. Make Me absolutely knocked my socks off. *I could totally segue that last statement into a lewd comment but I'll keep my inner 16 year old at bay ;)*

Tyler's character is so delightfully filthy with his words. Mix that with Brandon's sweet disposition and it's just a firework ready to go off.
Maisie is a lucky lady.

I, personally, would qualify this is erotic romance, because there is a relationship that reaches beyond sex. I know others might disagree and mark it as strictly erotica due to the sexual content (F/M,M/M, M/M/F) and frequency of such scenes. But whatever you want to classify Make Me under I don't care, because it was hot and made my day/night and probably tomorrow :)

Charlotte Stein has just redefined "hot" for me. Again. I beg her to never, ever write scat. Ever.

As with all other books I've read by Ms. Stein, I loved the language, the characters, the story. I've never met these people on the pages of someone else's book. The world, the tone, the dynamic... all unique -- the kind of unique I've found to be a hallmark of Ms. Stein's work.

If you consider yourself open-minded, I'd recommend this book to you. If you want more of the sort of stories you've grown comfortable with, you're in the wrong place.

In a romance world full of alphas, Charlotte writes just for me, it seems. Everyone seems to want a big tough alpha these days, but give me a hottie that likes to be bossed around a bit, and I go weak in the knees! All her characters: tops, bottoms, and a little bit of both, have true emotions and depth. Love love love.
