Excellent Resource

I order this because I have been studying chord progressions in rock music to that in jazz and classical. I was not anticipating the full transcription with the horn parts. This is a great book if you are in a cover band and want to do some Chicago tunes.

Great book

Good book. However, some of the writing is a bit strange. It seems like some measure are left out. Where repeats should be, there are none,ect. It's just very strange writing. If youre going to transcribe these into a notation software be prepared. Notes and rhythms are correct, and thats what I got this book for. Also, not every song has a transcription for a Clarinet or alto. If it does, the tenor part is not included. So basically, only one woodwind is included for every song. Other than that this book is great. If youre band wants to do some Chicago tunes get this book

Great transcriptions, incomplete book.

I just received my book. The transcriptions are great... just like the record. Solos and all (i hope i can play the trombone solo well enough). However, the book stops at page 112, and "25 or 6 to 4" starts on page 114. I will not complain because I really only bought this for Beginnings, but it would be nice to have 25 or 6 to 4 too.

PreSchool-Grade 1-- Told in rhyme, this is the story of a slinky black cat who prowls at night and becomes a thief. After his loot is discovered, he decides to stay home nights. While there's nothing wrong with this book, there's nothing to recommend it, either. The text is somewhat workmanlike, with very precise rhythm but not much charm. The full-color illustrations lack the personality needed to draw children into the story or to make Slinky an interesting character. Quite simply, the cat steals stuff, then stops. It's hard to imagine many preschoolers who would sit through the whole book. There's just nothing to it.

Another Great Story by Lynley Dodd

We have a cat and this is a great cat tale for our kids (3 and 1). Lynley Dodd's rhyming ans storytelling are very entertaining and Slinky Malinki is a beloved character. We bought this after first receiving "Slinky Malinki Open the Door" as a gift (another recommended title. It is amazing how hard it is to come across a children's book that has the perfect balance between good artwork and good writing. There are so many poorly written stories out there. My husband and I have no qualms reading this story over and over again to our kids.

Cat burglar

Again Ms Dodd takes us on a furry adventure. This time with a kleptomaniac cat who just can't help himself from helping himself to the neighbourhood treasures! Her descriptions of Slinky Malinki are utterly delightful and she employs wonderful alliteration to accentuate the sensuality and fluidity of movement. Once again the use of rhyme and rhythm carry the reader through highs and lows in Slinky Malinki's adventures. Another delightful treasure I've not been able to let go off, despite children in their teens!

A favorite in our house

I came across Lynley Dodd and Slinky Malinki while browsing in a book store in London 8 years ago. I brought a copy back for a little friend and she LOVED it. When I had a kiddo of my own, I bought it for our collection. Our son is a huge fan. It probably doesn't hurt that we have two black cats that look a lot like Slinky Malinki. :) Lynley Dodd has a talent for rhythm that captivates children. We now own more books from the Slinky Malinki collection and love them all.

JOHN J. RUSZKIEWICZ is a professor at the University of Texas at Austin where he has taught literature, rhetoric, and writing for more than thirty years. Spiral Bound

Saved $30 not buying this book at the university book store. Same exact book, which is a relief, correlating pages and everything. Everything I expected, except that it was spiral bound instead of just a plain bound softcover like the other students have, but like I said, saved $30. GREAT DEAL- will never buy books at the book store again!

EDIT!
This book is only the textbook and DOES NOT include the readings. Amazon does offer the book with the readings for about $10 more. Also, the ISBN number on this book was wrong when I purchased it. I am returning this book to buy the book I actually need.

About the Author
"M S Naidu was Professor in the Department of High-Voltage Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. A PhD from the University of Liverpool, he served as a visiting scientist at the High Voltage Laboratory of the Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands. He had also given lectures at many highvoltage laboratories in West Germany, Switzerland and France. Professor Naidu was a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) and also a Fellow of the National Academy of Engineering. His research interests included gaseous insulation, circuit breaker arcs, pollution under HVDC, etc. He published many research papers and authored Advances in High Voltage Breakdown and Arc Interruption in SF6 and Vacuum. Recently, another book on Gas Insulated Substations authored by him and was published in 2008. Professor Naidu passed away in February, 2002. V Kamaraju obtained his PhD in High-Voltage Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He was formerly the Professor of EEE and the Principal at the JNTU College of Engineering, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. He was a visiting professor at Middle East Technical University, Gaziantep, Turkey, during 1981–82. He has done extensive research in the area of liquid and solid dielectrics, composite insulation and partial discharge. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India). He has published many research papers and has been a consultant to various industries and to the Andhra Pradesh State Electricity Board. He has published Electrical Distribution Systems and Linear Systems: Analysis and Applications during 2006–2008. He received the Best Teacher Award from the Government of Andhra Pradesh, India, in 2001. At present, he is Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Mahavir Institute of Science and Technology, Hyderabad, India. "

In addition to providing clear descriptions, these easy-to-read books contain step-by-step photographs and graphics that make maintenance and repairs understandable. In the Marine Diesel Engines Maintenance and Repair Manual, the author also describes sail-drive operation, which makes this the only book I know of with such detailed information about the sail-drive propulsion system. The author also breaks down maintenance and repair projects so boat owners will know whether to attempt the repair or call a mechanic. For example, a green wrench indicates a simple repair for the average person, a yellow wrench means that the repair requires some skill, and a purple wrench indicates that the job is complex. When I see a purple wrench, I know it s time to call my mechanic. . . . I highly recommend both books. As with a good novel, I could not put them down and am now ready to tackle some work on my small outboard motor and inboard diesel engine. (The Ensign)

My comments are from the perspective of a long-time sailboat owner who now operates a small-scale solo sailboat repair business on Chesapeake Bay. Though individual engines may vary, general principles governing the care and feeding of the numerous brands of both 2-owners will, in addition to owning useful volumes such as the one reviewed here, purchase engine-specific repair manuals to supplement the meager information supplied when most engines are purchased. The more information one has, the less likely one is to be taken in or cheated by less-than-straightforward mechanics or repair facilities. This book begins with information on the theory and operation of 2- and 4-cycle outboards. Their anatomy, operation, and terminology are explored thoroughly, supplemented with numerous diagrams, photos, and drawings. Essays on fuel, ignition, cooling, drive systems and lubrication are included among the topics covered. Following the theory and operation section is an extensive review of maintenance, along with an extensive list of hands-on tasks, ranging from checking and changing spark-plugs to carburetor adjustments to battery maintenance. A chapter on breakdowns follows. Such events always seem to occur at the most inconvenient times, making this portion of a list of problems, along with listings of probably causes for each problem area. The repair solutions suggested provide a good troubleshooting guide to getting oneself out of difficulty. The volume ends with an extensive, illustrated essay on laying up and storing the outboard at the end of a season. A (lengths, liquids, capacities, weights, etc.) provides an end piece for this useful book, along with a useful index. Challenges novices in a good way

This is a great book, but not a book for the novice. I'm a novice. What it did do, however, was familiarize me enough with my engine so when the guy came to repair it, I "knew" what he was talking about. And, I could stand around and nod my head when folks used words like "impeller." Can i repair an engine? Not yet. But with this book, and looking over someone's shoulder, I should be able to some day.

The book talks about two stroke and four stroke engines, and for the novice, this can sometimes be confusing as they switch back and forth, and I was sometimes confused if they were talking about "my" engine or the other size engine. That's just me. I know that when I KNOW it won't matter, but for now... I wish there was one book for four stroke motors, and one for two stroke -- but no big deal.
