About the Author
S. Truett Cathy is a real-life Horatio Alger story. Growing up in a boardinghouse his mother operated during the Great Depression, he learned the principles of hard work, honesty, loyalty, and respect. When he opened a small restaurant in 1946 with his brother Ben, he put those principles to work and immediately began to experience rewards. Over two decades later, Cathy opened his first Chick-fil-A restaurant, which was unique in America in two ways: it served the first boneless breast chicken sandwich, and it was the first fast-food restaurant to operate in a shopping mall. Today, the more than 1,000 Chick-fil-A restaurants boast than $3 billion in sales annually while adhering to a policy previously unknown in the fast-food business: Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays.

Along with his wife, Jeanette, Cathy is also the founder of the WinShape Centre Foundation, which offers college scholarships, summer camps for children, a marriage retreat center, and homes for more than 130 foster children. The Cathys live in the Atlanta area.

A Business Man We Can All Learn From!

S. Truett Cathy strived to do the best job he could do.Whether he was selling Coke or delivering newspapers he wanted to do his best.This is what made him a great business man.He began his career for buying 6 cokes at the grocery store for$.25 and selling them a nickel a bottle.only people started catching on.Then he would buy the Cokes from the Coke truck his business got to be so good he was able to add other soft drinks also.
His brother Ben and him opened their first restauraunt in 1946 The Dwarf House.Sadly both of his brothers were killed in a plane crash.In 1967 he opened Chick-fil-A making popular his chicken sandwiches a secret receipe.Lady Bird Johnson was served one.Also Harlem Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken.When asked if it was the best chicken sandwich he had ever eaten he replied second best!Cathy and his wife later founded Foster Homes and they keep their businesses closed on Sunday for Church and family time.Cathy also was a Sunday School teacher for 13 year old boys.Thank you for taking the time to read this review!!!

Great Book - Not What I Expected

I really enjoyed this book and learning about the history of Truett and his principles. That being said, I was disappointed because this book was not what I expected. I read the chapter titles and expected a more anecdotal book on the subject of the chapter name. This was not the case. It more describes the stage of life that he is writing about than helping us maintain such a value, which would have been fine if the sub title wasn't "Doing Business the Chick-Fil-A Way". It should have been called "The Story of S. Truett Cathy".

So, if you are interested in reading about S. Truett Cathy, his wonderful story and love for God expressed in his love for children, then I definitely suggest reading this book. I don't regret it.

However, if you are looking for a book to layout moral, God-focused principles and how to measure / achieve them, then I would not suggest this book.

This is the 5th book I read written by Mr. Truett Cathy. It is both simple and deeply written, sharing Mr. Truett Cathy's values, outlook, and choices he made doing business, giving back, and leaving his legacy. The 3 main ideas I took away from this reading are
1) In business, sometimes it is more important to do what's right, instead of what's best
2) You don't have to be smart to care, you just need a heart
3) The children are the future. Take of the children, and we take care of the future.

Hitman's Love of a Lifetime #BADBOYZRULE

OH WOW! Jack Steele is just WOW! He is one man I wouldnt want to mess with and he is sooooo alpha and dangerous. When his woman is taken- at first he didnt realize she was his, he just knew that his mentor Dixon was gone forever and his daughter, Hazel Bradshaw , had been taken away as revenge against him. He cared deeply for Dixon and he saw Hazel as his friend but something suddenly switched on inside him. There is this great POV that was seen in this book from Jack--told in a way that I truly enjoyed. Jack was going to get Hazel back and take revenge on the men who took her from him. He holds Hazel in this haze of memory from their time when they grew up together as kids , then the memories slowly change to when they are adults... the passion and the beat of the story is fantastic.

Hazel is one strong woman to endure what she did. She loves Jack completely- her POV is wonderful. Reading Jack's and then Reading Hazel's POV is so interesting- its unique to see MC's POV.. She has always loved him and despaired he would ever see her as a woman...the point when he did was electric. Her horrific turn with the kidnappers until Jack got her back...wow, the author wrote a great story and kept me glued to this book.

The ending of the book when Jack got to Hazel and they were on the run and the dual POV -mind-blowing. I do not want to give any spoilers but suffice to say, it is action packed and full of passion and chemistry between them as they fight the bad guys and their own feelings while on the run. Jack refuses to give in while Hazel is begging him to not give up and to love her...full of emotions.
The ending -will Hazel give Jack a chance when he realizes what he did after pushing her away -the love is there-and will the bad guys be caught. You have to read to get this awesome story. It is FANTASTIC and sooooo good!

Oh my! Oh my! Oh my! Emilia Beaumont has certainly stepped outside the box with her latest release, Hitman's Revenge, a Forbidden Bad Boy Romance and I, for one, hope she stays out! I loved this book! I began reading Beaumont's work several years ago and was immediately impressed with her unique style and exceptional talent. I quickly became a diehard fan but this story is so far removed and totally unlike any of her previous releases, that it has surprised even me. I've never read anything like it. It's written in one of the most unusual styles I've ever read; it's truly magnificent. The narrative of the book is written in the first and third person with his and her alternating points of view but is divided into three separate and distinct parts. The first third of the book is from the male protagonist's point of view with each chapter alternating between a present first person perspective and then a past flashback as told by him in the third person. The second third of the book is from the female protagonist's point of view with each chapter alternating between a first person perspective in the present and a third person retelling of a past event. Then, the final third of the book is a first person perspective with alternating his and her chapters. It's bloody brilliant! It swept me into the past and present lives of both of the primary characters and held me completely enthralled. I fell head over heels in love with professional hitman Jack Steele and beautiful, innocent and quite often naive Hazel Bradshaw, the two primary players in this remarkable story of danger, drama, suspense, murder, loss, heartache, unconditional love and hopeful redemption. These two characters were intriguing, engaging, totally relatable and exceptionally well developed. Jack Steele was definitely not your typical hero. Jack was a cold blooded killer but he was also an extraordinary antihero that held me under his spell from the first page until the very last line of the book! I felt empathy for him as well as sympathy along with heartache for his plight in life but I never gave up hope for the possibility of his redemption. And Hazel was such a joy, as a child and an adult, always giving her love freely and unconditionally. She was brave, loyal, straight forward, honest to a fault and never played games with people's emotions. And even the bad guys were given their proper due as we learned some of their history and motivations. The dialogue was captivating, realistic and well executed. The entire book was masterfully written and exceptionally well crafted with professional formatting and a beautiful cover. What did I love about this book? Everything! Would I recommend this book? You bet and I am but only for adult readers as it does contain several explicit sex scenes in the last third of the book. And yes, the build-up was torture but it was worth it. It had me on the edge of my seat constantly questioning, will they or won't they. Most of us automatically assume since this is a romance that the hero and heroine will do the deed but I was having serious doubts and that's the beauty of Beaumont's writing. It's so darn realistic, you begin to doubt what you think you know about the characters and the story. Most of us form an opinion of how we think the book will end long before we get to the last page but with this story, you don't have a clue. That's the beauty of all the twists and turns, to keep the readers on their toes and Beaumont makes it look effortless. I loved it! If I had any criticisms at all, it would be only one thing. The story reveals that Jack's parents were murdered when he was only six years old but we never learn why or how, just that it was a violent death leaving him an orphan. I would love to have known whether his parents were somehow also connected to a crime syndicate as was Nixon Bradshaw, the man that took him in, gave him a home and mentored him. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book!

Trained assassin and professional hitman Jack Steele has suffered great loss in his lifetime but he's also caused many others to suffer the same fate. As a result, he's had to give up everything he loves including the woman that will hold his heart in the palm of her hand for all time. That woman is Hazel Bradshaw, the daughter of Nixon Bradshaw, the man who took him into his home when he was only six years old. When Jack had nowhere to go and no one to turn to, Nixon became his adopted father, provider, teacher and mentor. And Nixon's three year old daughter became his heart and only love. But make no mistake, Nixon was no choir boy. He was a highly paid assassin himself who passed on his trade to Jack. Jack and Hazel grew up together and were as close as two kids could be with Jack as her older foster brother, best friend, protector and knight in shining armor. But now at age twenty-nine, his life as a cold-blooded killer for hire has cost him everything. He's made countless enemies over the years and can't afford to love anyone. That's a weakness he could never afford making him vulnerable in the eyes of those who want to hurt him. He had long ago abandoned any hope of experiencing love along with any expectations of having a normal life which meant one thing - he could never have his beautiful Hazel. There was only one problem with his logic - he never told Hazel. He never told her that he loved her beyond all reason and craved her touch, and never, ever told her that she could never fall in love with him. And by the time he tried, it was too late - she was already hopelessly and irrevocably in love with him.

Hazel Bradshaw had never felt more afraid or alone in her entire life. She had to witness her own father's murder and now she has been kidnapped, held prisoner and beaten. She has no idea where she is and there's only person who may be able to save her, the man she's always loved, Jack Steele. But he abandoned her ten years ago, cruelly turning his back on her and her offer of love, and still she loves him and has loved only him for two decades. There has never been anyone but him and even now at twenty-six, she has saved herself for him and consequently, she may now die without ever experiencing physical love. Still, in the recesses of her mind, the spark of love and hope is still alive but will Jack come for her? You bet he will! Are you ready to feel the wrath of Jack Steele? Oh my! Completely captivating, seriously sexy, deliciously dark and divinely entertaining! Once I began reading this book, I could not put it down! So much yearning, so much loss, so much heartbreaking angst but also, so much love. Sigh... Absolutely exquisite! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

Fast-paced, sweet romance with a hot hitman

When the male character is a hitman, something switches on inside me and I'm fair game. I have to read that story! With this book, the action starts full-throttle as Jack finds out right away about his father figure, Dixon, has been brutally killed. What's worse, the girl he grew up with has been kidnapped.

One of my favourite things about this novel is the structure. It's divided into three distinctive parts. The first one is told from Jack's point of view as he follows the leads that will take him to where Hazel's been imprisoned. It's interesting to see his hard side, the killer's edge, but also the sweet memories he holds from them growing up together.

Then, Hazel's got her turn to tell her ordeal at the hands of Jack's enemy. This second part includes more memories from the past tinged with longing, tenderness but also some heated moments.

The final part is a mix of both of their points of view as they run and fight for their lives. There's action, tension, fear and blood, also plans to come out of the criminal mess alive. All the while, I was torn because Jack refuses to give in to his emotions and keeps pushing Hazel away. At least, they both have reasons to act the way they do, and their few intimate encounters were quite hot.

I think this is a good hitman story. It's lively written, it has got a very entertaining way to link every scene, a bunch of dangerous scenes and a sweet and hot romance. The ending included some very needed redemption from the dark hero's part. I liked all of it.

"The Garbage Collection Handbook is the most up to date, detailed, and exhaustive collation and description of the current state of the art of the Garbage Collection and Automatic Memory Management available today. It is an imperative reference book for anyone working in the field, and I would consider it the textbook of reference covering 'GC 101' thru 'GC 530' course levels, if such courses were given at universities worldwide. As CTO of Azul Systems and co-creator of multiple modern concurrent collectors, Richard Jones' previous 'Garbage Collection' (1996) book was indispensable to my work over the years. The Garbage Collection Handbook has immediately taken its place. Each of our GC engineers has a copy on their desk.

An important item to your AX toolbelt

When dealing with performance issues you have to understand in depth how all the components in a solution work by themselves and in collaboration with the specific other components of the solution. You also need to master several different toolboxes to measure performance of the various components. Few people master all these components and tools in depth.

This book is a collection of information you need to be able to prevent and to troubleshoot and fix performance issues with a Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 and 2012 solution and the components that make up the total solution. The authors have described each topic in an easy and understandable style. You can read it with the purpose of learning more about performance with Microsoft Dynamics AX solutions and you can use it later on as a reference guide.

Experienced, or somewhat experienced, Microsoft Dynamics AX technical consultants are the main audience of the book.

The book covers a lot of ground and it cannot stand alone as a single educational tool for all the described tools and components. You can for example find information much more detailed other places about Microsoft AX development for performance. However, that would make the book ten times thicker. With the books focus on the, for Microsoft Dynamics AX solutions, important things, the book works. I could make the bold statement that you could consider the book to be a kind of a Maggi cube for the information you need about all the different components that make up the Microsoft Dynamics AX performance experience.

I will definitely recommend the book. The investment in the book will quickly pay off if you are a technical consultant working with performance issues in relation to Microsoft Dynamics AX.

A must have for experienced implementers or administrators

This is a very technical book, and is not targeted to a beginning administrator. This is a very good deep dive book, where an understanding of the deep bowels of Ax can be found.

This book covers a lot of ground and is very densely packed. It does a good job of calling out which SQL DMVs should be watched, and addresses good practices that I generally agree with. I would recommend this book be read by anyone who wants to get the most out of their system, or understand why the system is performing poorly.

Dissappointed in ordering this book

This book doesn't at all address performance optimization. They basically recited public knowledge off Microsoft's website and public blogs. In the preface, they claim the information contained to be real-world knowledge but it's not. I read the book from front to back and was unable to find a single useful suggestion that addressed real-world performance issues encountered. The out of the box installation of Dynamics AX includes all the suggestions shown in this book.

The font-size is blown way up as filler text along with many many useless pictures. No publication/copyright/publisher information. Not to mention, majority of the reviews on Amazon for this book were written a week after the book was listed.

Kim Possible Forever

This edition has two exciting Kim Possible episodes, "Attack Of The Killer Bebes" and "Monkey Fist Strikes". This is a picture book, with images from these two TV adventures. The pictures are very clear, art-like drawings. The book pages are made out of thick, durable paper too. This book is worth the price, and would give satisfaction to a Kim fan of any age. It's the perfect book to have, because with it you can see Kim any time you want.

Beautiful Cinemanga!!!

This is the second Kim Possible cinemanga and contains the episodes 'Monkey Fist Strikes' and 'Attack of the Killer Bebees'. Like the first volume the storylines are told in a great comic book style using actually screen shots from the episodes. The book has gorgeous full color printing that is second to none and the layout is awesome.
Anyone who loves KP will dig these high quality cinemanga volumes!

Dense to the point of being unreadable

I am a serious 'foodie' with a general interest in Chinese food and a particular interest in how its export to the west has actually produced a separate and distinct cuisine in its own right. I was really looking forward to reading this book when I first saw it. I rather expected a broad look at North American Chinese food along the lines of The Fortune Cookie Chronicles: Adventures in the World of Chinese Food except with a focus on Canada rather than the USA. Unfortunately, I was sadly disappointed. This book is not even close to what I was looking for; rather its is an incredibly dense and obscure sociological/philosophical treatise which examines the Chinese diaspora using cuisine as the comparative frame of reference. The author does make an interesting point about 'Canadian Food' being almost exclusively defined by the menus in Chinese-Canadian restaurants and it is clear that she has made an extensive study of the evolution of menus in such establishments. Had these points been developed purely in the culinary sense I would have loved this book. Unfortunately, these interesting points served only as a springboard into ... well, I am not sure what! The writing here was so prolix, dense and jargon-laden that I was not sure if the author really had a valid point to make or was just pouring out nonsense in an orgy of over-analysis. Ultimately, I got weary of trying to find out an answer to the question and gave up about half-way through. Here is an example of the prose:

"In the context of identification, the idea of eating Chinese takes on the significance of a moment of violent incorporation with all of the cannibalistic connotations that accompany the moment of consumption. However eating Chinese in Canada is not simply a mastery of Chinese otherness driven by the nutritional instinct. It is a repetition of the cannibalistic scene where the desire for violence is both preserved and repressed. It is at once an enactment and disavowal of violence, achieved through positivism of embracing otherness."

Uh... okay. Can I still get an egg-roll with that?

Excellent reference book, lousy primary textbook for courses, does not include epidemiologic statistics

I hated this book (first edition) as a text in grad school because it did not go through derivations or explain any of the background where all the formulas came from. Then the second edition turned out to be an extremely useful reference book when doing research and actually using the various statistical procedures. I am an epidemiologist but also do other types of statistical analyses. The many examples are very helpful if you have a dataset that is similar enough. The book covers a broad range of statistical procedures, not including epidemiologic statistics such as incidence, prevalence, relative risk/rate, Odds Ratios, Cox Proportional Hazards regression, Poisson regression. I have bought and used all 4 of the previous editions over the years and Zar has become the first book I look at when trying to decide which procedures are appropriate for the data at hand (non-epidemiologic data). From a quick perusal of the 5th edition, I still would hate to have to learn this stuff from this book, I need to go through the derivations and assumptions in detail to really learn, and deriving proofs of even the simplest procedures from the sketchy descriptions in this book is very difficult or impossible for me. I much prefer the approach of Hogg and Craig, Breslow and Day and other more mathematically detailed books that outline derivations and show the curious reader where the formulas and procedures come from and what assumptions need to be made for them to be valid. In fairness, Zar is well referenced so you can often find an article or book that does provide more mathematical detail. So the 4 stars is a weighted average of 5 stars for usability as a reference text and 2 stars for the usefulness of this book as a primary textbook when first learning the material. Also, the book title implies coverage of epidemiologic statistics, which are not covered at all.
Incidentally, I ordered the hardcover version new and it arrived in terrible condition. The binding was separated from the cover in both front and back. I could not find the option to call Amazon for customer service to request a replacement so I mentioned this complaint in my review, but have not factored it into the 4 star rating.
ADDENDUM: With a little searching of the website, I finally found the customer service line for Amazon, called them, re-examined the damaged binding and now believe the book actually was damaged in shipping. On closer examination, the binding does appear to be of reasonable quality but it seems the book was dropped on its open side which tore the binding at both front and back covers. Amazon offered me a partial refund to compensate for the damage to the book, which I believe is a fair amount. I will repair the binding myself, which I prefer to the hassle of returning the book and getting a replacement sent. Five stars for Amazon's response to this problem.

Excellent Book

Supplier: Prompt and received well ahead of schedule!

Book: This is a classic. Some stated that it was high level, but I didn't see it that way. He provides great examples with good details on the exact calculations. One should be able to perform all calculations with any usual calculator or spreadsheet. He does not delve into any derivations or higher level math such as derivatives and integrals. In fact, the entire book is very practical.

This book covers from Biostatistics approach which means that there is more dealing with the nonparametric side and more dealing with metrics for species, diseases, etc. not usually found in statistical texts. He covers that same areas as the usual texts, but adds better examples, detail calculations and includes good interpretations. The emphasis was more on "use" rather than subtle statistical basics for the methods.

One of the great features was inclusion of Circular Statistics, which to date his is the only one I've come across that actually provides great coverage of this area. This is not covered in any texts that I've owned, except the original works by Mardia. And the examples are very good in how to use and applications. This area is surprisingly encountered more often than not and is always overlooked. I would buy this book just for that section alone. In fact this approach solves a lot of those periodic, seasonal variation problems I ran across in industry.

Overall, he covers the usual stats, adds a lot of features (similarity, diversity, various indices, etc.), covers "random", added chapters on circular, added "intraclass correlation" which is also overlooked, and still covers the basic stats that all need to know. It's more like a "handbook" with great examples, and does not approach from a Math-Stat-Must Derive Foundation from Theorems. Sometimes all we want to do is solve the problem, understand the assumptions included in the method, and not dwell on deriving and interpreting or deriving from some high level, fundamental theorem. I've always hated "theorem-speak" where they provide 2 theorems, 5 corollaries, and then hand you a practical problem to solve (where the derivation of the connection between theory and application was "left to the student!" -- my major was not math; but in sciences sometimes you just need to use the methods correctly and do not need to carry all the deriviations. I think that when I see the methods in a rep. text, I found that I can usually trust the integrity of the authors. Past that point, I just need to apply the methods and not make mistakes.)

I started with 2nd ed, bought the 3rd and 4th. I don't see that the 5th offered much more than the 4th. And the price of the 4th (because the 5th is out there) is reasonable. This is one of the standard texts I keep in my library; I will be getting rid of some of those standard texts.

Excellent high-school level statistics text requiring only a basic background in Algebra-2/pre-Calculus

The text is a bit dry, formulaic and encyclopedic - but thorough in what it covers with good examples and tables. It also requires minimal background in science and mathematics. I have used it as a reference to bone up on statistical inference and some of the basic methodology used in clinical trials, medicine and genetics.

Like: The price was just a couple of bucks - well worth it for a reference and much cheaper than the ink and paper used in an ink jet. Good for us old-timers who prefer written texts over ebooks.
Dislike: I personally prefer more sophisticated treatments that are more suitable for physics, physical sciences and engineering. I would not recommend purchasing the newest edition for which the cost increases by 100x.
It is well-suited for all levels of education and fields requiring only high-school algebra II/pre-calculus, and non-mathematically intensive areas, specifically in biology, health-science, nursing and/or medicine. It is also of value for business, economics, and as an aid for data analysis in general. It may be of some value as background material for information/communication theory, statistical mechanics/optics,etc.
